Research:
Linguistics & Language Acquisition

My research focuses on second language (L2) phonology, empirically testing phonological hypotheses by means of laboratory methods.  Additional research areas include historical linguistics, L2 lexical acquisition, and Chinese tone sandhi.  For details and future research directions, see my Research & Publications page.

Teaching

I have taught German language and linguistics courses at various levels since 2006.  I have also taught introductory German literature and two interdisciplinary courses of my own design: One on constructed languages (conlangs) that explored them in linguistic, social, and artistic terms, and also a freshman seminar on (mis)communication, ranging from auditory perception and to national discourses.
